Things To Do In Jersey City

Jersey City, New Jersey is a wonderful tourist attraction for those passing through or looking to stay. With almost a quarter million people running the streets on a daily basis, there is a lot to interact with and do in this hustling and bustling city.

Getting around the city might be tough for tourists who haven’t rented a car during their stay. But if they don’t mind taking public transportation, there are plenty of places that can be reached via the many sources of transportation. Jersey City has many rail stations, ferries, bus stations, and even a few airports to take advantage of.

Jersey City is known mostly for being very close to the Statue of Liberty- one of the most widely known landmarks in the United States. Also popular is Ellis Island, where immigrants had once visited to gain entry into the country years ago. Now both make for a wonderful sight for those who don’t live in the area- and a great trip in history for those who live in the area.

The largest clock in the world, the Colgate Clock, also resides in Jersey City. This is a very worthy look for tourists, who should realize that the clock may not be around for too much longer. Because it has been taking up a now-abandoned lot, the Colgate Clock is likely to be moved in the near future. It is unclear whether this may even happen or not, but tourists should get pictures of the clock while they still can.

Jersey City is especially friendly to females, who just love to shop. There are a total of ten different shopping districts to visit in Jersey City- each with their own style and different shops and goods. Jersey City commonly brags that their sales tax is only 3.5%, compared to the 8% or more that other states and locations abide by. As such, Jersey City is considered a hot shopping location for tourists.

There are also a few parks that will enable tourists to relax and take in the sights. Liberty State park, Leonard Gordon park, and Hudson River Waterfront Walkway each have their own distinct styles in relaxation and entertainment. Those who are familiar with the Statue of Liberty probably already know about Liberty State Park- which is situated near the landmark in question. All three are considered to be a must-see for any tourists in the area who might be passing through.

In Conclusion

It’s hard to go wrong with Jersey City- one of the most beautiful cities in the state of New Jersey. Get the most benefit of your visit by talking to a travel agent or looking for more information online to see what would best interest one’s own tastes.

Wedding Destinations Vary to Your Needs

Sunday 10 August 2008 @ 12:20 pm
by Greg Hansward

For those who are planning a destination wedding, you will want to consider that there are a lot of reasons for you to find yourself overwhelmed with decisions. You will find that there are tons of websites online that you will want to consider helping you plan the out of town event of the year. You will need to look at these sites so that you can outline some of the plans that you need to take care of and also help you organize the stress and expenses of the wedding. You will find that the price of the wedding will include traveling arrangements, wedding parities, and also the wedding itself. You will not be able to think and visualize the wedding of your dreams. For some people, you may want to consider the destination wedding as a new way to elope. You will be able to fly you two to some corner of the world and have a beautiful and personal wedding without having to deal with the guests and the hotel reservations. All you will have to do is just make the legal arrangements and then make the trip arrangements. Once you are there you will have a commitment ceremony and you will be able to have the wedding of your dreams without having to focus on the troubles and stress of planning.

However, keep in mind that even the best ideas and the best destinations have some issues. You will want to keep in mind that there are some couples who feel that the destination has to have some personal or romantic meaning to them, however, you don?t always have to have the dreamy, romantic wedding, but you could have a wedding that is fun. You will find that when you are picking a destination, you will need to consider that the destination needs to be exactly what you are looking for. You need to make sure that you keep your options open. You don?t have to go somewhere fancy or somewhere that you have never been. When you make plans going somewhere that you have idolized without proper research you are simply heading for a disaster.

When it comes to destination weddings you will find that there are some do?s and some don?ts. You will need to consider that romance is the one thing that you need to keep in mind about the destination, however, don?t forget the basics. You will have to remember to pack the important things such as, the dress and the gold rings. You will need to make sure that you sign the contracts, keep on top of the arrangements, and also gain your marriage license on time. Keep in mind that when it comes to the marriage license a lot of people end up forgetting it and then the marriage isn?t even legal. Don?t allow your wedding to be a disaster by forgetting the marriage license.

A lot of people also assume that their close family and friends will come. Discuss your option to go away for the wedding with your family. You will need to keep in mind that this could cause some family drama and if you really would like to avoid the drama, then you need to be open to other opinions and express your feelings for the wedding. Keep in mind that it is your wedding, but your family is always going to be a part of your life.

The Cultural Essence of Bruges

Sunday 3 August 2008 @ 6:53 am
by Thomas Burtonelli

Bruges is More Than A Movie Title

Bruges is a small Belgium city that has been made famous by a certain recent gangster movie. While the movie is all about the criminal side of things, Bruges is actually a cultural hotspot for Belgium. Specifically, we are talking museums.

The first thing you notice about the city is also one of the oddest. It is packed solid with museums, perhaps more than you find in any other city per square foot. If you love history and museums, Bruges is the place to be. This is particularly true for the historic old town.

If spending a day strolling through history is your idea of fun, this is the place. A quick count of museums includes The Archeological, Folklore, Renaissance, Memling, Gruuthuse and Groeninge Museums or halls. That’s just a sampling.

First up on our trip around Bruges is the Folklore Museum. Very popular with visitors, it is a cobbler’s heaven with 17th century almshouses. You can view ancient confectioner’s shops, classrooms and cobbler studios among other sites.

Love art with a local twist? The Groeninge Museum is the place to visit. It is a fine arts gallery packed with works from well known local artists. They include people such as Jan Van Eyck, Memling, and Gerard David.

The Van Brugghe-van der Aa family gives us our next must see museum - the Gruuthuse. It is a Gruut house formerly owned by the family. Gruut refers to a spice that was used to create beer that was incredibly popular.

If you are considered a great artist, you will often get your own museum. Such is the fortune of Hans Memling. An influential Flemish painter, he has the Memling Museum all to himself for the most part and it is worth a trip if you admire his work.

Personally, I prefer to walk through history. If you feel the same, the Renaissance Hall is worth a visit. It takes you back to daily life in 16th century Bruges. This was the period of the Renaissance, so it is an interesting experience.

To say Europe has a long history is a minor understatement. The same goes for Bruges and the Archeological Museum is the place to experience it. It is interesting to walk around a city with the modern conveniences and then attend a museum showing the area without them.

Lest you think museums are the only thing to do in Bruges, they are not. From food to walking about the city to taking barge tours, it is a destination you simply have to breathe in and enjoy.
